Every Sunday we run student-run coaching for all level players. These sessions take place right in the centre of the University's grounds from 3-6pm and are extremely popular for a good workout and a place to socialise.
If you’re new to squash or haven’t had much court time in the past, then these sessions are perfect. For those who are aiming to become a team player but need some more practice, you get the chance to meet some of our team members and improve your skill over the term.
The club runs a league which is usually comprised of 4-6 players in a box. This league gives you the chance to play when you want and if you want - you organise the matches between you and your opponent and just submit the scores to us. By the end of each term, you should have played some good matches with players of a similar level to you. It's the perfect way to improve your match play without committing to weekly team games!
For those who have never stepped on court before, do not fear. We have some spare kit available if you do not have the gear and in the meantime, take a look at this video that explains the simple rules of squash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gQsAKZ71tU
Here's some useful squash websites that you can also take a look at to get your head around the world of this sport.
To book courts, you must have the University Sports Pass. Once you are registered with this pass, simply go into the Sports Centre on Tyndall Avenue and ask at reception. The booking is free once you (and your opponent) have purchased your pass. Courts are available on weekdays from 9am-3pm (Kingsdown) and 5.40pm-9pm (BGS), and weekends from 9am-3pm (Bristol Grammar School).
Note that the sports pass is different to squash club membership (sports pass allows you access to the gym, squash courts, fitness classes etc.) You can book courts up to a week in advance, but beware they tend to get booked up quickly, especially for the evening sessions.
You can find more info about sports passes here: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/sport/memberships/student/
